About Kathie Compton

Kathie Compton knows dogs!

Kathie has been training dogs for over 30 years.  In 2001, she opened mARFa Dog Training in Far West Texas after relocating from Miami, FL.  As a trainer and behavior consultant, Kathie is uniquely qualified in evaluating, managing and modifying a wide range of challenging dog behaviors, building and strengthening the human/canine bond, providing advice about choosing a dog, and finding the right training classes for you.

In 2006, Kathie’s training knowledge was assessed through the national, independent testing program of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and she was certified as a professional dog trainer.  She was also a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).  Both organizations require continuing education to maintain certification. In 2015, Kathie chose to relinquish both certifications to avoid the extensive travel required but she still continues to keep updated about current trends and research in dog training and animal behavior.

Kathie is a past Vice President of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants

Closer to home, Kathie is a founding member and current President of the Board of Directors for Responsible Ownership of Marfa Pets (ROMP), a targeted spay/neuter assistance 501c3 nonprofit organization.
